I would have to say that my art career was strongly influenced by my mother, Ursula Becker, who was a fiber artist as well as a watercolorist. She taught me that beauty in life can be captured in unexpected ways if you open your mind to the possibilities. Her philosophy has guided me to create art that defies convention.
I consider my art to be a representation rather than a recreation. I enjoy combining common objects or elements in unexpected ways that evoke emotion from the viewer. Inspiration comes in many forms. It can be a color, texture, pattern, object, or a feeling. Texture is my favorite element. Whether the piece is a sculpture, watercolor, or a collage, texture is worked into the piece in some way to add an element of depth and feeling.
Rarely do I completely plan out a project before it is begun. Instead, I let the materials speak to me. At times, the original concept has completely changed by the time the final piece is created.
